Short answer
UDISE+ is the Ministry of Education's yearly data collection from every school in India, filled in on the UDISE+ portal under the school's 11-digit UDISE code. It covers the school's profile and facilities, its teachers, and each student individually. Keep every student's name, date of birth, parents' names, class, and identifiers correct in your own records first, then the yearly entry becomes copying, not hunting.
Fields and deadlines change from year to year. Always follow the current year's instructions from your block or district education office and the UDISE+ portal.
What UDISE+ is
UDISE+ (Unified District Information System for Education Plus) is how the Ministry of Education collects data from schools across India. Government planning and scheme budgets rely on it. Every recognised school has an 11-digit UDISE code and fills in its data on the UDISE+ portal, after which it is checked at block and district level.
The three parts
- School profile and facilities: management, board, classes offered, buildings, classrooms, toilets, drinking water, electricity, computers, and similar.
- Teachers: each teacher's details, qualifications, and the classes and subjects they teach.
- Students: each student individually, with personal details, enrolment, and progress from the previous year.
Student details schools are usually asked for
| Detail | Where it usually comes from |
|---|---|
| Name, gender, date of birth | Admission register or school software |
| Mother's, father's, or guardian's name | Admission form |
| Class, section, roll number, admission number and date | School records for the current year |
| Mobile number and address | Admission form, kept up to date with parents |
| Aadhaar number (where given), APAAR ID, PEN | Collected from parents or generated on the portal |
| Social category, religion, mother tongue, disability (CWSN) | Collected from parents with consent |
PEN and APAAR ID
UDISE+ gives each student a Permanent Education Number (PEN) that stays with them when they change schools. The APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry), part of One Nation One Student ID, links a student's academic records over the years and needs a parent's consent. Note both against each student in your records once you have them.
Mistakes that cost time
- Names spelled differently from the birth certificate or Aadhaar, so records don't match.
- Dates of birth written in mixed formats (DD/MM and MM/DD) across registers.
- Students who left still shown on the rolls, or new admissions missing.
- Section changes made on paper but not in the main register.
- Collecting category or Aadhaar details in a hurry at the deadline instead of at admission.
How to prepare in a week, not a month
- Fix the master student list first: one row per student, current class and section, no leavers.
- Check names and dates of birth against documents for the classes where students are new.
- Collect the missing details from parents early, with a short form explaining why.
- Export the list in the layout UDISE+ asks for and fill only the remaining columns.
- Have a second person check a sample of rows before submitting on the portal.
How EduRit helps
EduRit lays out your student records the way the UDISE+ student profile asks for them, for a class or the whole school, in a sheet that opens in Excel. Aadhaar, APAAR ID, category, religion, mother tongue, and disability come as empty columns, since EduRit doesn't store them. EduRit doesn't submit anything to the portal; the school does that itself.
